The Commonweal Theatre is proud to present A Driftless Christmas, a radio variety show written and performed by the Commonweal Resident Ensemble. Through short skits, original music, and personal stories we muse with humor and heart on family, tradition, and the emotional blizzard that’s been 2020. And while this Christmas will be unlike any other, the holiday spirit will prevail and we are honored to be a part of your season celebration.

After cancelling our planned production of A Christmas Carol in June due to the pandemic, it was clear we still wanted to offer some sort of performance to celebrate the holiday season… But what? And how?
We met virtually twice a week to brainstorm. We shared stories and memories, played games and sang songs. We talked about what the holidays mean to us and how our families celebrated. We looked back on the craziness that was 2020 and shared our hopes for 2021. And most importantly, we wrote. We wrote and wrote and read aloud and wrote some more.
In the end, we created A Driftless Christmas—titled for our region, of course, but also for that vague “driftless” feeling we’ve all been experiencing most of this year.
With news of vaccines, hope is on the horizon for 2021. The end is in sight… yet this holiday season is still sure to be lonelier than most. So thank you for joining us on our “driftless” journey. Let’s keep each other company.
