About Lanesboro

A quirky crossroads of the arts and outdoors!”
— Minnesota Monthly Magazine

lanesboro minnesotaNestled in a deep valley of the Root River in southeast Minnesota, Lanesboro offers a wonderful combination of invigorating outdoor activities, rich artistic experiences, unique shopping, fine dining and lodging to fit every taste and budget.

In addition to the Commonweal Theatre, Lanesboro is known for its location on the spectacular, paved Root River State Bike Trail, winding 60 miles through the valley with Lanesboro at its heart. Excellent for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and in-line skating, it runs along an abandoned railroad bed through high bluffs, forest lands and rolling fields. The area also offers pristine golf courses, camping, trout fishing, and picnicking. Numerous outfitters can assist with bikes, canoes, tubes, and fly fishing supplies. The nearby Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is also a must-see with its hiking trails, high ropes courses and special events throughout the year.

Lanesboro Arts features over 70 local and regional artists, public exhibitions, classes and workshops, artist retreats and residencies. The area is also home to many Amish families. Several companies offer tours to local Amish farms and shops. A horse-drawn carriage ride through town gives visitors an overview of the community. In the summertime, be sure to see what our local farmers are growing at the Farmer’s Market in Sylvan Park.

With a revitalized downtown, flourishing arts and abundant outdoor opportunities, you see why people return time and time again to this beautiful area.
